April 28, 2011 – The IAFF is saddened by the untimely passing of Professional Fire Fighters of Utah (PFFU) Vice President Mike Fredrickson. Fredrickson lost his courageous battle with cancer April 27.
Services will be held at the Utah Labor Center located on 2261 South Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84119 on Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m.
Over the past 35 years, Fredrickson has served his home local – Salt Lake City Local 1645 – as Fire Fighter Director and Vice President. Beginning in 1976, he also held several PFFU executive board positions, including PFFU President, District 2 Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer.
IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger was in Utah recently for the Professional Fire Fighters of Utah Convention and had the opportunity meet with Fredrickson. “While he will be missed greatly, I am heartened that I was given the opportunity to talk with and hear the sound advice of this great union leader one more time,” says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger.
He adds, “On behalf of the 298,000 members of the IAFF, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Fredrickson’s son, Tyler, a Salt Lake City Local 1645 fire fighter, has expressed his gratitude toward all IAFF members for their ongoing thoughts, prayers and support for his dad as he was being treated for cancer.
The long-time labor leader is survived by his wife, Peggy, his daughters Erica and Katrina and his sons Alex and Tyler.
