The 2009 Battle for Blood campaign between Police and Fire Departments in the metropolitan area took place the week of June 20-26. This annual competition was established by the Community Blood Center in an effort to boost participation in providing a much needed item (Blood) for the community.
The results from this year are in and it looks as if the Police have won with 729 donors and Fire with 602 according to the information listed on the “Battle for Blood” website. The total number of donors in 2009 amounted to 1,331 which are down from the record breaking drive in 2008 which amounted to 1,788.
Local 42 would like to thank everyone who participated in this very healthy competition. The one thing that we must not loose sight of is the community where we live and serve benefits from this event regardless of who wins. Thanks for continuing to give back!
